Last image optimizer you will ever need
“RasterFox is an incredibly fast and feature-rich image optimizer that you won't need another one for. It offers granular resizing control, specialized template renaming, smart background removal, compression, and incredible speed.”
Perfect replacement for ImageOptim
“I've been using RasterFox for a while now and it's quickly become my goto image optimizer. I used to rely on ImageOptim, but since that hasn't seen updates in ages, RasterFox has stepped in and taken its place without missing a beat.”
Trilby makes great products.
“I am a huge fan of Trilby products—well thought out and well executed.”

Frequently asked questions
Formats, pricing, and getting started.
JPEG, PNG, WebP, and AVIF. RasterFox can compress existing images and convert between formats. WebP output requires Pro after the trial.
Savings depend on the image, its format, and how much it has already been compressed. Higher compression can remove visible detail, so use the before-and-after preview to check the result before saving.
High Quality keeps more detail, Balanced trades some detail for a smaller file, and Small Size applies stronger compression. Balanced is included in the free version. Pro adds all presets and custom settings.
Every feature is available for 14 days, with no account or credit card required. Afterwards, the free version includes unlimited Balanced compression in batches of three, 2× upscaling, and five background removals. Pro costs $9.99 once and covers three Macs.
No. Leave your App Store copy installed, open the downloaded disk image, and run RasterFox from it before moving it to Applications. It reads your App Store purchase and unlocks Pro. You can request a permanent license key in the app for your other Macs.
The direct download checks for updates and installs them through the app. Homebrew users can update through Homebrew. The Mac App Store version still works, but no longer receives updates.
An Apple silicon Mac, M1 or later, running macOS 14 Sonoma or later. RasterFox does not currently run on Intel Macs.
The compression and upscaling components bundled with RasterFox are currently built for Apple silicon. An Intel version would need Intel builds of those components as well.
No. Compression, upscaling, and background removal run on your Mac. Update checks and license activation use the internet, but your images are not uploaded.
Yes. The free rasterfox command-line tool uses the same compression as the app. It works through whole folders at once and converts to WebP, AVIF, and JPEG XL, which makes it a good fit for build scripts and servers. Install it with Homebrew on a Mac or Linux: brew install skulkworks/tap/rasterfox-cli
